We entered the Potala by climbing stairs on the front (south) side. We left by walking down a sloping driveway, also used by automobiles, at the rear. This ends at an area where tourist buses park, on the west side of the hill.
There were a lot of thin stone slabs, with Tibetan writing on them, leaning on the rocks beside the driveway.
Little piles of rocks, just a few inches high, which looked as if they might be
some very simple kind of impromptu shrines.
