The Barkhor Market

There is an extensive open market area in the vicinity of the Jokhang Temple.

Looking west across the Barkhor Market from the top of the Jokhang Temple. Chakpori Hill (Chagpuri, Chagpori, Iron Hill) is in the background.

A statuette of Chairman Mao for sale, in among those of Buddhas, etc.

Man holding a prayer wheel mounted on a stick. These are quote common. There is a written prayer inside the wheel. A modest motion of the user's arm causes the weight to turn the wheel clockwise. With each revolution, the prayer is considered to have been repeated one time.
